RE: size of 5er and RV parks

Stuart: You state the models you are looking at are in the 36-37' range. Are these the actual lengths or just some number the manuf's slapped on the units? Ours, for example, is a model 31RK, the brochure lists the exterior length at 33'11", but if you tape it from bumper to end of hitch pin its 35'7". You take those measurments and then add the truck, when its hooked up, and we are right at 50'!! I totally agree with countryrose in that you need to take at least a 50ft tape with you and get some real figures before you decide which rig to get.
Good Luck.................Marv

RE: Removing kitchen drawers...

We have the metal ball bearing guide rails on both sides of the drawers. When you look at the rails you see little rubber "fingers" at the end of the rails. Pushing on these "fingers" releases the drawer from the guide. Took me forever to figure that one out so don't feel bad................Marv

RE: Route Advice - Northern Great Plains Region

Considering your wifes love of American Indian culture, I would recommend two places, Crazy Horse Memorial in the Black Hills, and The Plains Indian Museum in Browning, Mt.
Enjoy your trip...............Marv

RE: Setting Up Ford Brake Controller

Curt: Our 5er's UVW is listed at 10540, and it's GVWR is listed at 12380. Haven't had the rig weighed, yet, but figure we are somewhere in between. I've had the IBC set at 8.8 for awhile now and this seems right for our unit. I started out with a setting of 7.5 but didn't feel comfortable with that so started using different settings until it felt right. We also have the "Tow/Haul" combo and agree with Bearnkat. One nice thing about the IBC is you can set it while on the go until it feels right, or if the road condition suddenly changes.

RE: Someone from Montana

All of the previous posts offer very good suggestions. To me, there is actually two Montana's, one eastern half and one western half. I lived in the eastern half, Glasgow, for about two years, thanks the the USAF, and IMHO, if you want to experience the "real" Montana, take a leisurely drive along Hwy 2, also known as the Hi-Line. If you take the time to stop at a few of the small towns along the way and talk to some of the locals, you'll get an idea of what I'm talking about. As far as the western half, that's an entirely new chapter in itself. Whatever you do, ENJOY.................Marv

RE: Plentywood MT - Medora ND

You could also just stay on 16 down to I94 at Glendive. It will mean a little back tracking once you get to I94 but its a good two lane road. Also very pretty between Sidney & Glendive with all the sugar beet farms.

Man, am I disappointed!! I thought there would be pictures! Good things to know though, thanks. What about the rest of the hiway, say from the pass to Silver Gate, still snow covered, or is it open?
Take care.............Marv

RE: Battery question

I'm no expert but I've heard that by adding a new battery to an older one, the older one will draw down the newer one till they equal out. Might be something to consider, depending on how old your original battery is.

RE: Glaicer National Park - nearby campgrounds

We haven't camped at either one of these, yet, but have read some good reviews on North American, and Mountain Meadows, both of which are on Hwy 2 just west of the park.

RE: How to Prime the Water Pump?

Try this: Fill your fresh water tank, turn on pump, while pump is running open fresh water tank drain and let water drain for about 10-15 seconds. Don't ask me how or why this works, but it is what we have to do to ours every time we refill the tank!!??
Luck...........Marv

RE: Roads from the 101 to the 5 in Central Oregon

We did Hwy 38 last fall from Reedsport to I-5 pulling our 5er. Very good road and it follows the Umpqua River most of the way which was very scenic. Make the turn at Drain to get on I-5 and don't forget to look for the elk just out of Reedsport.
Enjoy

RE: Yellowstone (Fishing Bridge) to Devils Tower - mileage

Was it 14 or 14A that you did? Also, have you considered hwy 16 btwn Worland & Buffalo? Thats the way we usually go as it is a very good road and Powder River pass is not that much of a strain.

RE: Yellowstone (Fishing Bridge) to Devils Tower - mileage

This is what I get with my DeLorme Street Atlas 2008:
Alt. 1: 566 miles
Alt. 2: 596 miles
Alt. 3: 481 miles
Now I just wish I could afford the fuel to take one of these routes!!

RE: Yellowstone & Bear Tooth highway

I would recommend getting a site at one of the campgrounds in Cody, and do the loop from there, as Chief Joseph Scenic Hwy is also very pretty. Also, when you get to the top be sure and stop at the "top of the world store" and get some ice cream. It's kind of a tradition for folks who go through.

RE: bullard's beach

We also prefer loop A, site 18 I think? You are aware that loops B & C aren't scheduled to reopen until June 15th. They've been adding 50amp and redoing water & sewer. Should be nice when they get it all done.

14A through Spearfish canyon will take some time but is a very pretty drive. No clearance concerns though.

RE: Best route from Butte to W.Yellowstone, 287 or 191?

Tough choice. Flip a coin! We prefer 191, but thats just us, and the fact that we like to spend time in Bozeman every time we go through the area.
